The Luton Arts Council runs several 'in-house' projects:

Annual Drama Festival:
The Luton Arts Council sponsors the Adult and Youth One-Act Drama Festivals held at the Luton Library Theatre in the spring of each year. These festivals provide an opportunity for people of all ages to come together from the surrounding areas to demonstrate their creativity, energy, ideas and talents. The second round of the All-England Eastern Region Drama Festival is held after the last night of the Adult Drama Festival. This is a competition between the round one winners of the Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Festivals.
They are all professionally adjudicated by members of the Guild of Drama Adjudicators.

Short Story Competition:

This free competition is open to everyone resident in Luton and the counties of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Stories can be of any length up to a maximum of 1500 words.

£100 will be awarded to the first place in each Adult category and £75 in the Under 16 category.

Categories are:
Overall Adult Winner
Luton Adult Resident
Overall Under 16 Winner

Additional smaller prizes may be awarded at the judges discretion.
ONLY ONE ENTRY PER PERSON

Stories must be in English, either typed or clearly written on one side of A4 paper and fastened.
Entrants are advised to retain their original text and send in photocopies only. No entries can be returned. No name or address should be on the entry script; only the stories title and, if you are under 16, your age.
Receipt of stories will only be acknowledged if a stamp addressed postcard is supplied. There are no other charges for entry but a short critique is offered on payment of a fee of £5 towards expenses.

This years closing date is now past and all winners will be notified by post before Christmas. The names of the winners will be provided to the local press and will, of course be posted on this website.

The judges' decisions are final. The judging panel reserve the right to withhold awarding prizes in any of the categories if the submitted work is not of a high enough standard.

Amateur Artists (Painting) Competition:

A competition for amateur artists - those not making a living form painting or who have not done so in the past - from the age of 17 years and upwards and living within the Luton postcode (LU* ***).
At the beginning of August a winner is announced and selected pieces are hung in Luton Library for the most of the month.
